THIS weeks trader of the week is Frasers chip shop. The chippy has two stores, one located in Whitehaven and the other in Egremont.

Ian Fraser is the owner and runs the Whitehaven shop. Ian is a local owner as he grew up in Whitehaven. Frasers, as a company name have been in business for around 21 years between Whitehaven and Egremont. Ian and Neal Fraser own Frasers together and worked together in the Egremont store until the Whitehaven shop opened in September 2015.

Frasers is found at the site of Crosbys, an old chip shop in Whitehaven and Frasers had to work out how to keep customers going back to them, they said:

"Business since opening has been tricky as it was originally another reputable chip shop before we took over and people get used to what they know. It was nothing we were not ready and experienced for."

Like many other businesses, Frasers had to cope with the pandemic, and now the cost-of-living crisis. The products and shop itself have been getting more expensive to run but the team emphasise that they are positive in 'pushing through it'.

The business have big plans for the future. They would like to take full advantage of their settings and expand backwards onto the harbour and offer restaurant inspired seafood.

The owners thank their customers and staff for their support, saying:

"Business has been tough but we are determined to make it work. With all the loyal customers we have old and new as well as the hard working staff."

Some of Frasers most popular products include their seafood platters and their spin on an afternoon tea. This includes two Cod or Haddock fish fingers, chips, mushy peas/curry/gravy, scones with cream and jam, cakes and a side of bread and butter.
