Over the weekend a social group held a Comic Con like event in Whitehaven for the first time ever.

Mini Con was held on Saturday, July 23, in The Marchon Club by West Coast Cosplay.

The group regularly meet up to role play as their favourite TV show, movie or comic book characters.

Due to high demand they decided to host a convention where people could dress up, partake in competitions and buy locally crafted goods from a range of stalls.

The organisers say they were delighted with the turnout as the event proved to be much more popular than anticipated, they say they hope to host another similar event in the near future.

Darren Powe, of West Coast Cosplay, said: "It went a lot better than what could have been expected. We bought 200 wristbands expecting not to sell them all and we sold out within an hour and a half and kept letting people in.

"People of all age groups attended with lots of families coming along. Some families even came in full cosplay to which was good, one family came dressed as characters from the Netflix show Squid Game.

"There was people dressed as a range of different characters from anime, Marvel and DC, so pretty much a mix of everything.

"Everyone seemed to really enjoy it and we got a lot of positive responses, in fact we got no negative feedback at all, we were all quite surprised with how well it all went.

"All of the stalls were set up by local people and sold mostly craft items. My daughter came along and was selling bead art.

"She did very well on the day and I think most of the other traders did too."

Darren says the team are looking to host a bigger event next time around. No venue has been confirmed as of yet but they are looking at The Solway Hall as a potential option.
