WHITEHAVEN RL have faced another difficult defeat this past weekend as the side took on Featherstone Rovers at home.

The end result was 24-46 to Featherstone, but after what has been a difficult season with a lot of losses, the club were still pleased with the team's performance.

Head coach Jonty Gorley said: "I thought in the first half we were very good and I thought that the half time scoreline flattered Featherstone.

"We defended really well and we had two or three more chances and were able to break them a few times.

"At this level you've got to go for it, the result was 12-10 in Whitehaven's favour at half time.

"Featherstone managed to get a few tries going into the second half so it just shows we need to be playing better.

"Don't get me wrong we put on a better performance than we did against Barrow the week before.

"But we had a team like Featherstone on the rack in the first half but we didn't make them pay for that, we didn't take our chances.

"If we get three chances we need to be successful on two of them at least but in this game we got none. I'm a bit disappointed because good teams take their chances at this level.

"In reality we gifted them some tries and it was really poor defending at times, both of their half backs got tries.

"They are a good side but in the first half it wasn't like that, we made them look ordinary. That's a real credit to our lads and we've got to take the positives out of it."

Whitehaven will go on to play against Leigh Centurions on July 24 at the LEL Arena.

Kick off for the game will be at 3pm in Round 20 of the Betfred Championship.
