Workington Athletic nearly swept the board last season - but two trophies eluded the Smurfit Kappa Cumberland League champions.

One of those was the Cumberland Cup and the in-form outfit are hoping to put that right this term - but first they must get past Workington Reds tonight at Borough Park, ko 7.30pm.

Manager Craig Routledge says his side have been playing together for a long time and are a tight unit.

"We won everything last year apart from this and the Benevolent Cup so it would be nice to keep going in the competition," he said.

"We obviously want to go there and get a win but we don't yet know what type of team they will play against us.

"The majority of our lads have played together since they were Workington juniors so they know each other well which helps."

Routledge is well aware of the ability of both teams, having only stood down as joint manager of Reds' Reserves before Christmas.

"It will be a little strange going back as I only left a couple of months ago," said Routledge.

"When the draw was made I just had to laugh as the first two teams out of the hat were us and Reds against each other."

Athletic are well known for their fast attacking style and Routledge sees no reason to change their game plan.

"We will just play our normal game and hopefully turn on the style and take the game to them," he added.

"Matthew Perry has been scoring for fun, he already has over 20 to his name this season, and we like to play an attacking game."
