Over 130 runners headed to a sunny Whitehaven last week as the Harbour 5km road race returned after a four-year break.

The event, organised by Cumberland Athletic Club, saw competitors take on the short but challenging out and back route along the harbour and up to Haig Pit.

Ellenborough AC took the first three places in the men’s race. Lee Amor, who led the race from the outset, came in first with Alan Bowness second and Nathan Gray in third.

The ladies race was won by Cumberland AC’s Natalie McCarron. Ashlyn Holiday won a hard fought battle for second place with Cumberland AC’s Nadia Shaw, the winner’s twin sister, in third.

Race organisers were pleased that runners of all abilities entered the race and are confident that the success of the event will ensure it becomes a permanent fixture in the West Cumbrian race calendar.
