WHITEHAVEN RL faced another defeat at home against Batley Bulldogs.

The West Cumbrian outfit faced off against the Yorkshire side at the Ortus Rec on Sunday, April 14, and came away with a 12-25 defeat.

Head coach Jonty Gorley said: "It was disappointing. Is Batley the best side we've played this year? Probably not, they’re a good side but I was disappointed with how we showed up with our attitude and how we entered the game.

"Effort areas and enthusiasm against a side that was looking for their first win. We were looking for a win after last week and we didn't get it.

"They didn't have to do a lot to break us down which was really disappointing, the emphasis was on being aggressive defensively, especially on their yarded sets, and we were anything, but I think.

"Maybe there was a set or two during the game where we thought 'Well fair does' but even with those sets they ended up kicking from a 50 or a 50 which isn't the best. It's disappointing.

"There were two errors in the first half, and they scored the next set on both of them. We gave a penalty away in possession during the second half, they scored their next set. With the try in the second half we errored, restarted, and they scored again in the corner.

"It's all about us, what we do, and how we defend on the back of our errors.

"We talked about stopping the rot when you make an error. They've just proved it again today because they're scoring the next set when we do.

"It's going to be a long, hard, season if we keep doing what we've done these last couple of games.

"It doesn't get any easier, we've got Toulouse and Featherstone next, so we'll have to see what we're made of. We need to be better.

"In terms of injuries we've got a couple of knocks, so we are down on troops. But I still feel today that the 17 today should have done better than what they did."
