WHITEHAVEN RL are set to face off against Barrow Raiders this weekend.

The West Cumbrian side will take on the Raiders in a derby game on Good Friday.

Head coach Jonty Gorley said: "After the win against Swinton and Barrow's defeat against Widnes, they'll be looking to set the record straight for their season opener.

"Apart from the Summer Bash last year, every game we've had against Barrow recently has been really close encounters, with one or two errors from either side winning or losing the game.

"We're looking forward to playing at home, especially on Good Friday as they're always good games to get to.

"Hopefully, the fans will get down in their droves from both sides and support the game.

"We didn't have a game this week, so we'll be having three training sessions. We'll have a conditioning session and a couple of team runs so it'll be more or less the same as any other week. However, with the game being on Friday instead of Sunday, it'll be more compressed.

"We got off with a win against Swinton, but it wasn't good for the first twenty minutes or so as we were 14-0 down. But just the way that the team put their mind to it and played how we wanted to get into the grind with Swinton, I thought we were good.

"Coming from 14-0 down against any team in the Championship and getting a result is a testament to the lads' character with how they set us up to get that win at home. To get that result against Swinton was great for us.

"Any game's important but it adds a bit of spice when it's a local derby against your rivals. Workington isn't in the Championship yet and our biggest match is Barrow now.

"As I say, our last few encounters we've had have been good games and really tight as they could have gone anyway.

"I know that Barrow would like a win, but we'd like to keep up with our winning start to the season as well."
