AN Egremont boxer has competed at a tournament in Sweden.

Billie Donaldson was given the chance to box in an international tournament by her hometown club Egremont ABC.

At the weekend Billie flew out to Boras, in Sweden to compete in the Golden Girls Box Cup with coaches Alan Toole, Mally Caton and Paul Savage.

A spokesperson said: "Billie entered into the 70kg category, in the quarterfinals the Egremont boxer drew Ranske Goos of Holland.

"Billie set the pace fast keeping centre ring hitting the Dutch boxer with fast precision counters to head and body winning the round.

"Goos knowing she had lost the round came out fast trying to claw back some momentum early but as soon as Billie caught Goos with her pinpoint right hand the fight was taken out of her.

"The referee gave a standing count the third was all Donaldson giving her opponent two standing counts with Goos lucky to see the end of the round.

"The next day, Billie boxed Swedish regional champion Emeile Svensson with only one defeat on her record in twelve contests.

"The Swedish boxer seeing Billie box the day before chose spoiling tactics to slow the pace down and catch Billie with the odd shot. All three rounds were pretty much the same with a lot of holding and grappling Billie losing a points decision.

"With there not being a lot of opportunities for women to box in the area the club hopes this will inspire more girls to take up the sport.

"The club would like to thank their sponsors for this event: Bounty Competitions, RC Civils, Unite the Union, L.J Savage, The Hungry Caterpillar, William Cunningham, The Whittington Cat, The King's Arms and Pod Groundswork.
