Whitehaven Rugby League has announced the re-signing of the club’s leading try scorer in 2023 Curtis Teare.

The centre/winger scored 12 tries in 28 league and cup games also being an ever-present for Jonty Gorley’s side having initially joined the club towards the end of the 2022 season and having made the step up to the professional game with Workington Town from the community game having played for Wath Brow Hornets and represented England Community Lions at both Under 19’s and 23’s.

Speaking about signing a new deal at The Ortus Rec Teare said: “Last year was a bag of mixed emotions and hopefully we’re at the other side of that and we can kick on as a club.

"It was one of my better seasons in 2023, I just have to keep moving forward now. The step up to the Championship was hard but I’ve now found my footing and want to keep pushing forward."

Haven head coach Jonty Gorley was happy to retain the services of his top try scorer saying: "Curtis was in my top 3 for consistency this season whether on the wing or in centre, he was a 7 or 8 out of 10 each week.

"Curtis starts our sets off well with his kick returns, he's a proper handful when he carries, he's a big strong lad and fairly fast.

"With nearly 400 carries over the season, 70 more than anyone else, and more often than not gets us a quick play the ball, he is one of our go-to ball carriers.

"He can also finish too, some of his finishes this year are right out of the top drawer, totalling 12 tries, our highest tally.

"So I'm expecting big things from Curtis next season because there is still room for improvement."
