WHITEHAVEN fought back to win 31-38 against Millom in their third away game victory of the season.

Both teams went into the fixture with confidence having  secured bonus point wins in their last games.

The hosts came out of the blocks in the first 20 minutes denying Whitehaven any going forward ball. They dominated the set piece and had built up a 24-0 lead. Whitehaven’s plight was not helped with a serious amount of penalties and a yellow card conceded.

However at around 30 minutes in, Whitehaven started to gain a foothold in the match and after a period of pressure scored a try close to the sticks which was duly converted. The match ebbed and flowed and half time came as Whitehaven were in the ascendancy.

At half time Whitehaven regathered themselves, made some changes and started the second half as they finished the first.

It was imperative that Whitehaven scored first in the second half and they did after a period of sustained possession. From this point, both teams were scoring points and entered the final moments of the game with scores tied at 31-31.

Whitehaven won a scrum and from deep within their own half decided to run again. A period of sustained pressure in the Millom half allowed Lee Jones to ghost through a gap to score the winning try which was converted by Steve McConnell.

Try scorers were Danny Doherty, Casey Chambers, Clarke Chambers, Lee Jones and Will Burns.

The next match is at home on November 4 when Whitehaven take on Egremont.
