THE Conservative Club in Egremont has welcomed a boxing club for its first-ever show.

Egremont Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) first opened its doors on October 15 last year and in 12 months it has managed to get ten carded boxers wanting to box.

A spokesperson said: "All in all the show has 16 well-matched contests with clubs coming from all over the country and Scotland, Egremont had two skills contests and five scored contests."

Unfortunately, the club's senior female boxer Billie Donaldson had to pull out the night before.

"First up was Lewis Scholey having his second skills against Nathan McDonald Border City both these kids went at it from the bell showing a variety of different shots," the spokesperson said.

"Ivan Udod was up next from the Ukrainian boxing Lewis Turner from Workington ABC Ivan boxing on the back foot was looking for the counter, as Lewis came in with some nice lead hands.

"Egremont's first scored bout was Callum Myers against Brandon Briggs from Workington these two lads were making their debuts into amateur boxing showing skill above their experience, with Myers winning a split decision.

"Martin savage came into the ring without having a contest since he was 17 he won a unanimous decision against Klaus Ndinga of Blackrod.

"Martin's brother Paul savage was up next against Xerus aspires from Roache's Gym.

"Paul won the first round in a competitive bout but lost a split decision Anthony Harwood was in against old foe Cam Simpson of a title shot ABC these two boxed two weeks ago with Simpson winning a split decision Anthony changed his tactics and won a deserved unanimous decision.

"Egremont's Billy Conway was topping the bill, not boxing since the age of 14 he was in against Jack Preece of Blackrod ABC.

"Billy put his opponent down in the first round with a big body shot and was never off the front foot to take a unanimous decision.

"It was a great day and packed to the rafters everyone had a great afternoon the club is planning to host another show early next year."
