Work starts to demolish Whitehaven's former toilets

WORK has started today (Thursday) on the demolition of Whitehaven’s former toilet block.

Preparatory work has been taking place since Monday at the Market Place site, ahead of the building being knocked down.

Copeland Council closed the toilets in April last year – amid a public outcry – due to budget cuts. It leaves Whitehaven without a public toilet.

A 2,000-signature petition was submitted to Copeland Council in August but it failed to overturn the decision.
