Thorp plant to close in 2018

SELLAFIELD’s Thorp plant will stop reprocessing oxide fuel in six years’ time, it was confirmed by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority on Wednesday.

Have your say

"observer" i agree with your point of view, the tripe remark is aimed at the long winded drivel you've written between it.

Polite reply to 'Kenny Tang' : Mr. T., yes, I've heard of tripe, however, I am not as familiar with it as obviously you are. If you paused, reflected and gave a modicum of thought to what is going on behind the scenes, you would be able to see past the steady drip, drip of your self imposed brain washing programme. Thanks to people like your goodly self, more's the pity, the local incumbants of the majority of the council will be re-elected and continue with their ever downward spiral. Still, I hope you enjoy your pint and pie after the whippet racing and keep the fire stoked up with another lump of coal. Do you prefer garlic or plain mud with your tripe?

Sounds like a lot of envious people regailing in other peoples misfortune to me! Whether or not they get well paid...it is still more job cuts in this country...nothing to get all excited and smug about!!!

P.s. No...I do not and never have done work on Thorp

2018 date assumes that (a)Thorp manage to deal with all the difficult stuff that's been left til last and (b) the regulators agree that it is safe to use thorp storage pond as an interim store for the next 70 years. Very different story if these don't get sorted.

Well said Observer and James O. Kenny wake up and smell the coffee.

Would you, thee, me and others have expected a communique from the local council on what is of great importance to our locale? Or is Ms. Woodburn, and her inner circle sycophants, keeping deliberately quiet for a particular reason on matters nuclear?
Time will tell people.
Still, we have a referendum coming up regarding the non-acceptance of the huge underground waste repository in what is an unstable geological area, don't we?

And (oh dear, beginning with a conjunction, ask) still no comment from HRH, Elaine Woodburn. There again, we are getting a referendum on the high active nuclear waste (most toxic substance known to man) repository that will be the biggest single build in Europe, aren't we?
Come along Elaine, we haven't heard any proclamations or edicts telling us, the people of Copeland who did not vote you to be 'our leader', what you have decided are in our best interests. Are 'we' trying to keep some things out of the public domain?

Decommisioning is the future, the threat came to the nuclear industry at 9/11, the killing wound was Fukushima.... it's over.

Just watched the union convenors reactions on last nights Border News. Absolutely predictably militant and highly amusing. LoL

Don't worry people it's only 600 people lost in magnox, and however many in thorp that will lose their jobs, but don't be too concerned because if unlike me you are gullible and believe all the bull that comes out regarding up and coming projects, such as the new plants, the depositry, the skills centre and all the consultancy jobs the nuclear industry and our joke council have promised,i think last time i added up the fugures it was around 27000 new jobs, why bother they'll be starting a new job the day after,YE RIGHT,THE PLACE IS SHUTTING DOWN GET USE TO IT !,and stop believing all the bull from NMP and copeland council,i'll save a seat in the dole office and you'd better get shot of the nice car you worked all those shifts for, welcome to the real world outside sellafield!.
