Banstead Athletic took sweet revenge on Marlow on Saturday, thrashing them 3-0 at home to pay them back in full for league and cup defeats earlier this season.

Marlow were swept aside by a Banstead side determined to erase the memory of last Saturday's 3-1 defeat by Wivenhoe Town at Merland Rise.

More importantly Banstead showed enough guile to boost their hopes of finding consistent form over the coming weeks. In the next eight days they face two home games followed by a packed league schedule to the end of the season.

Banstead biggest bonus was the return to form of Ian Kilpatrick. His speedy runs and neat ball control unhinged Marlow's square defence and he capped his perfor- mance with a fine double strike.

Although neither side managed a shot on target in the opening 20 minutes Banstead strung together the better moves before taking the lead on 21 minutes when Kilpatrick zipped past three defenders into the box and drilled a 15-yard shot past Marlow's keeper Leath.

Banstead effectively wrapped up the result with two goals in as many minutes soon after the turnaround. Steve Spence set up Banstead's second, winning a tackle midway in Marlow's half and finding Steve Hall on the edge of the box. He skilfully skipped past a defender and fired a low shot past Leath. Banstead's third arrived after a terrible mix-up in defence allowed Kilpatrick to nip between two bemused defenders and neatly lob the stranded Leath.

Marlow managed to mount a fightback as Banstead took their foot off the pedal but made little headway against a tight defence. When Marlow did manage to find a way through near the end keeper Stuart Vaughan was on hand to deny them any consolation.

Banstead's league match with Tilbury on Tuesday night was postponed. On Saturday they face Chalfont St Peter at home followed by Hungerford Town next Tuesday.
