RESIDENTS from across Copeland have pulled on their trainers to do their bit for Sport Relief.

Hundreds of people young and old – many in fancy dress – took part in Sport Relief Mile events held in Whitehaven, Egremont and Millom.

In Whitehaven, runners took to the tracks at Cumbria Sports Academy at Hensingham on Sunday to complete one, three or six-mile routes.

Bransty Rangers Under-12s footballers and West Cumbria Women’s Netball Club were among the sports stars to take part.

Schools also did their bit for the Sport Relief cause.

At Moresby Primary, pupils were joined by Whitehaven Rugby League Club for their event.

Coach Don Gailer, hooker Chris Smith and team manager Paul Goodwin helped warm the youngsters up before joining them on their mile. A total of £279.85 was raised.

While at Kells Infants, pupils took a break from their Victorian Day to march a mile around their playground – in Victorian drill-style while wearing their costumes from the era.

At Specsavers in Whitehaven, staff took part in a cycling challenge, taking it in turns to complete 45-minute sessions on a static bike. They raised £229.02.

And a group of children who attend local childminders raised more than £350.

Accompanied by their childminders and parents, a large group of children completed a mile along Whitehaven’s Waggon Road.
