LIFE-SAVERS from St Bees RNLI have been rewarded for their dedication at an awards ceremony.

Sixteen members of the lifeboat service were presented with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medals – awarded to emergency services personnel who have served for five years or longer.

Mayor of Copeland Peter Tyson did the honours and the recipients were: father and son Ian and Paul McDowell, Alistair Graham, Ian Wrigley, Jason Foxcroft, Dave Barker, Phil Hughes, Richard Squires, Adrian Fisher, Chris Evans, Ian Howard, Phil Buxton, Dale Rickerby, Dave Rogers, Raymond Wilkinson, Alan Thurlwell and Dick Beddows.

The presentation was followed by a carol service performed by Whitehaven Brass Band and St Bees Primary School’s choir.

Father Christmas also made a special appearance, having been driven through St Bees village on his sleigh.

The evening, including a sale and raffle, was organised by the St Bees Women’s Guild with proceeds being donated to the RNLI.
