Man ignored town centre ban
IGNORING a Whitehaven town centre banning order has landed a man in court.
Tony Bennett, 38, was told by a police officer to leave the King Street area for a 10-hour period, but was arrested when he was later found in the vicinity.
Bennett, of Coniston Road, Whitehaven, pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £60 plus £45 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
29-month ban for drink driver
A 65-YEAR-OLD motorist has been caught driving at more than three times the drink-drive limit.
John Logan, of Brisco Road, Egremont, pleaded guilty to the offence, having provided a reading of 120mcgms of alcohol in 100mls of breath; the limit is 35.
He was given a 90-day prison sentence, suspended for a year, and was banned from the road for 29 months. Costs of £85 were also imposed.
Nightclub open later over Easter
CAP’N SENNY’S nightspot has succeeded in its bid for extra opening hours over Easter.
Temporary event notices were granted by Copeland Licensing Committee this week, despite police objection.
The venue will be open Thursday into Good Friday until 3am (normally 2am) and Easter Sunday into Easter Monday, also till 3am (normally 1am).
Chris Poole, for Senny’s, said: “We are now the only nightclub in Whitehaven and part of the town’s night-time economy. The extra hours will help support our business and give people time to drift away before closing.’’
Dad admits drugs offence
A WHITEHAVEN father-of-three has admitted a serious drugs offence.
Carl Cleaver, 32, of Windermere Road, pleaded guilty when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court on Monday to conspiring to supply the drug temazepam.
He was remanded on bail for background reports and will be sentenced on April 23.
Man obstructed police officer
MICHAEL Fleming, 36, of Aldby Place, Cleator Moor, has admitted obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty.
He must pay a £70 fine plus £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
