I’ve started sew I’ll finish – in 35 years!

A HUGE quilt that has been going for 35 years has finally been finished.

at last! Mary Hodgson with her quilt, which she started 35 years ago

Mary Hodgson, from Calder Sew and Sews, has been making the quilt since her days at school.

She said: “I started it at school and then just put it down and things got in the way of finishing it, I was busy with work and I was ill. I just recently thought it needed finishing.

“It’s pretty big, about the same size as a double bed spread.

“I’m really glad it’s finished.”

Calder Sew and Sews, a local patchwork quilting group based at Calderbridge, has raised £600 for Hospice at Home West Cumbria from its biannual craft exhibition.

Chair Sue Robertson said: “We aim to raise money every year for local charities and are thankful to all our supporters.”

The Calder Sew and Sews meet once a month at Calderbridge Village Hall to chat, share craft ideas and sew together and are always on the lookout for new members.

The group also organises guest speakers, sewing days and workshop days.
