Pupils and parents have been informed by letter that Mrs Norris is no longer principal and Jacki Smith, who was previously deputy headteacher, has taken up the role of acting principal.

Mrs Norris was headteacher at Whitehaven School from September 2010 and latterly principal of The Whitehaven Academy, following its transformation into a Bright Tribe academy in January.

Professor David Hopkins, Bright Tribe’s director of education, said: “Bright Tribe Trust is committed to improving standards and outcomes for all students at The Whitehaven Academy.

“In order to ensure the academy makes adequate progress on this improvement journey, we are increasing our support and leadership resource inside the academy.

“We have, as part of this increased support, made some significant changes in the leadership structure of the academy and Jacki Smith will be acting principal.”

He added: “The senior leadership team at the academy remains committed to delivering the very best education, and they will be working closely with Jacki and the Bright Tribe education team to ensure there is no disruption for students.

“We think we have fantastic students, dedicated and inspirational staff, and a very supportive community who are rightly proud of the school; we want to ensure that we continue to improve their experience and their outcomes.”

Mr Hopkins said Bright Tribe will keep staff, students and parents updated about future developments at the academy.
