Those with an interest in the shore and marine species are invited to take part in a new voluntary scheme in Whitehaven.

The Colourful Coast Partnership has launched its Capturing Our Coast project that aims to learn more about species that live locally, and how they can be protected.

A training day for volunteers needed to help gather the information takes place in Whitehaven on Saturday, March 25 (9.30am to 4pm) that includes an introduction to the project, followed by a session to help people develop the survey skills needed.

Sophie Badrick, Colourful Coast project officer, said: "We're excited to bring this training to Whitehaven.

"The wildlife along the shores here is under-recorded so this is a great opportunity for people to get involved and increase our knowledge about the species we can find in this special area.

"No previous knowledge is required, just enthusiasm and curiosity about the marine environment."
