A WHITEHAVEN woman is aiming to swim the English Channel – without getting out of Copeland Pool!

Over the next 12 weeks, Lydia Cannon, 40, will be swimming 22 miles (the equivalent from Dover to France) to raise money for the spinal cord injury charity, Aspire.

She is aiming to swim around 120 lengths a week to complete the distance.

Lydia said: "The swim seemed to be a worthwhile opportunity to raise funds the funds towards essential equipment, advice, housing and grants that spinal cord injured people need to live their lives independently.

"I am also motivated by keeping a level of fitness that combats my own back problems. I learned some years back how much the sport could strengthen your core and help recover from a prolapsed disc.

And she added: "The more I raise, the more of a difference I'll make.''
