Volunteers are needed to help out at three big events coming up in Egremont.

Calderfest, the Crab Fair and the town's Christmas Wonderland are all looking for public support.

Homeless hostel Calderwood House's festival, which will be held at Egremont Castle, will raise money to help its residents.

Taking place on Saturday, July 29 between 12 and 5pm, it includes live music, an obstacle course, 20 craft stalls and an arts and craft tent.

This year's Crab Fair, on September 15 and 16, sees organisers and visitors celebrate its 750th anniversary.

The event will involve a music festival with performances from top local artists, a food festival, an evening of music and dancing on the Main Street and the World Gurning Championships.

While the Christmas Wonderland, in December, attracts hundreds of visitors to the town each year.

Egremont town councillor Sam Pollen is hoping the town's "community spirit" will make the events successful.

"We're looking for volunteers to help with Calderfest," said Coun Pollen, who is also a member of Copeland Council. "Co-op has stepped forward and we're hoping more people will too.

"We have a huge event coming up with the Crab Fair's 750th year, I play a small part in that as road manager and we're putting out a big plea to join in, even if it's for an hour or two.

"There's all kinds of tasks for people to do, help will be needed on the Main Street and on the field over the weekend."

He added: "We also have a really successful Christmas event, which is getting bigger each year. There's a real community feel to it and if people want to get involved they're always welcome.

"All these events are going to be fantastic and if anyone wants to join it would be great."
