Volunteers will hold two beach cleans next week to tidy up the coastline as part of a national campaign.

Charity Surfers Against Sewage is holding its ‘Big Spring Beach Clean Series 2017’, and participants will be collecting any rubbish on St Bees beach on Saturday, April 8, between 2pm and 4.30pm.

They will follow it up with a clean-up at Whitehaven’s North Shore on Sunday, April 9, again between 2pm and 4.30pm. The charity has teamed up with the National Trust’s Colourful Coast Project to carry out the cleans.

Organiser Steve Wilson said: “We’re looking forward to this one – with the help of the National Trust we’re hoping it’ll be the biggest campaign yet.”
