A FUNDRAISING music night helped to raise £1,600 towards the town's Christmas Wonderland.

Egremont Amenity Committee, which organises the annual celebration, held a party - with a buffet and entertainment - to support this year's event.

Committee member Sam Pollen said: "This is the first time we have held such a social evening and judging by the support we received, it will definitely not be our last.

"A lot of effort goes into lighting up Egremont, Bigrigg and Moor Row at Christmas time as well as organising the Christmas event which attracts in excess of 5000 people.

"To see the amount of people who turned up to the event, makes us realise that our work is very much appreciated and it makes all the effort worthwhile."

Last Christmas plans had been in place to welcome a mini zoo to the town as well as reindeers, a snow globe and Santa until bad weather intervened.

Organisers hope to make the day bigger and better this year and have already received financial support from Egremont Town Council.

It agreed to put £10,000 towards the Christmas lights display on Main Street.

The committee thanked all the performers and Outside In, Nice Bites and De Margos for providing food.
