THEY may live to regret it, but fundraisers donated a set of top-of-the-range bowls to their fiercest rivals.

The £150 bowls were handed to Wyndham Manor after two daring fundraisers raised £1,200 by completing a 20-mile slog.

Pauline Grears, from Copeland Occupational and Social Centre (COSC), set off from Maryport in her electric wheelchair and was accompanied by Sarah Edwards, from the Workers' Educational Association (WEA).

Their journey to the Cleator Moor COSC on Market Square took five and a half hours and they were cheered on by family and friends along the way.

Wyndham Manor and COSC play each other every week. The rest of the money will go towards funding COSC outings and its annual photographic exhibition.

"I don't know why we are giving the opposition better equipment!" said Pauline. "But it's something that will benefit everybody, so we thought it was a good way to spend some of the money."

Annamaria Ritson, activity coordinator for Wyndham Manor, said: "We're chuffed to bits with what Pauline and Sarah have done for us. These bowls are a lot softer and easier on the wrists, so they will make the bowling events even more fun."
