Celebrations are taking place at a village school as Ofsted inspectors rate it as good for the second time in five years.

Ennerdale and Kinniside Primary School was visited by the education watchdog earlier this month which said the leadership team had created a “happy, harmonious and supportive school ethos” which is underpinned by high academic expectations.

The school’s last Ofsted, nearly five years ago, rated it as being good and inspector Will Smith said the leadership team has maintained this quality of education.

Headteacher David Moore, who took up the post in 2014, said the whole school was delighted with the report.

“We feel the inspector captured the essence and character of Ennerdale and Kinniside Primary School and recognised all the hard work that staff and governors have undertaken since the last inspection,” he said.

“He stated that children are being educated in a happy and positive environment where staff have high expectations which the children like.

“I am very proud of all children, who demonstrated exemplary behaviour on the day and obviously impressed Mr Smith with their enthusiasm and willingness to share their experiences and opportunities with him; they were a credit to the school.”

The report said the strengths which were identified at the last inspection have been built upon. The head has also ensured that pupils continue to make good progress in reading, writing and maths, it went on.

The school’s recent success in the national Lego league final “epitomises the gutso “ with which the pupils approach challenges and engage in extra-curriculum opportunities, read the report.

In a letter to Mr Moore, from Mr Smith, it said: “You are keen to spark the intellectual curiosity of your pupils and are passionate that they should all commit to lifelong learning.

“Your staff share your unswerving commitment to ensure that every child is challenged to achieve to the best of their ability.

“You have created a happy school where pupils enjoy learning and greatly value their education.”
