A £155,000 improvement scheme will see six weeks of temporary traffic lights on a busy West Cumbrian road.
Work to repair the bridge on the A595 at Blackbeck, between Egremont and Calder Bridge, is set to begin on Monday.
The bridge needs to be rewaterproofed and will also benefit from concrete repairs.
"We have instructed our contractors to ensure the traffic lights are monitored at key times during the day to prevent needless queueing and help minimise disruption to people's journeys," said Highways England project manager Mark Mosely.
"In planning these works we have also involved key stakeholders such as Sellafield.
"The repairs are south of Blackbeck roundabout so that route remains available for people travelling to the complex from the Egremont side."
The lights and a temporary speed limit will be in place around the clock. Work is expected to be completed by Monday, October 24.
