DEVELOPING an interest in healthy cooking is the aim of new free sessions held at Valley Primary School.

The Whitehaven school invited parents and carers to sign up to take part in Grow, Cook and Eat sessions which resulted in "loads of interest'' and saw nearly 50 families involved.

Running the sessions were Helen Shipton-Smith of Helen's Herbs who showed the groups how to make a healthy pizza from wholemeal dough, freshly-made tomato sauce, vegetables and herbs.

Helen said: "I was surprised that so many children knew so much about nutrition.''

The sessions are funded by the People's Health Trust, Coalfields Trust and Cumbria County Council. They are part of a healthy lifestyle programme promoted by Mirehouse Residents Group.
