A pedestrian has been taken to West Cumberland Hospital after colliding with a car in Whitehaven town centre.

Emergency services were called to Bransty Row just after 3pm today following reports of a collision.

It involved a male pedestrian in his twenties and a black Volkswagen Passat car driven by a Whitehaven man, say police.

A police spokesman said the pedestrian was initially treated at the scene by ambulance crews. He was then taken to West Cumberland Hospital by ambulance.

The man's injuries "are not believed to be serious", the spokesman added.
