Valerie was at the nursery for 20 years and has passed the job to Lisa Wilson, who has taught at the school for more than five years.
The former head celebrated her retirement with staff members and the nursery’s children last week. Over her 18-year stint as head, the school has received five Ofsted inspections which rated it “outstanding” in all areas.
The nursery has also raised in excess of £20,000 through annual fundraising to support local and national causes.
Valerie said: “I am now looking forward to spending time with my family and friends and having more time to take up hobbies and interests.
“I know I am leaving the School in very capable and highly experienced hands of Mrs Lisa Wilson, who will be headteacher from September.
“She has a fantastic team around her who are all very passionate about providing the outstanding quality of education and care Cleator Moor Nursery School has been recognised for over the years.
I am confident the staff and parents will all continue to support them and this fabulous facility over the coming months and years ahead.”
