A MAN has been sent to jail for committing an identical crime less than three weeks after he was put on the sex offences register.

Christopher James O’Neil, 35, from Whitehaven, has been sent to prison for 200 days in total after appearing before magistrates in Carlisle.

He pleaded guilty to indecent exposure on May 10 at a property in Coates Lane, Carlisle. Magistrates imposed a 150-day sentence.

O’Neil, who has been living at the Bowling Green hostel in Carlisle, also admitted assaulting a man on the same date.

The latest incident came less than three weeks after O’Neil had been made subject of a community order by magistrates in west Cumbria.

On April 22 O’Neil had been ordered to obey a curfew and complete a 30-day rehabilitation activity after pleading guilty to a similar crime committed in March.

Because of his inability to comply with April’s court sentence, Carlisle magistrates also sent O’Neil to prison for 50 days for the original offence in March.

O’Neil also received a 70-day jail term for the assault in May but it will run concurrently to the sentence of 200 days.
