IT is raining cats and dogs – of the skeleton variety – at a Whitehaven museum's fun craft session.

The Beacon is this week hosting its always popular activity events, held on the theme of skeletons to coincide with its current Bare Bones exhibition.

Youngsters, joined by their parents and grandparents, are enjoying making creative cats and dogs skeletons from sugarpaper and foam.

Pamela Telford, The Beacon's visitor services manager, said: "Our workshops are always popular and they have been really well attended again this week.

"The Bare Bones exhibition has been well received too; one of the best that there's been."

Bare Bones, which runs until November 13, looks at adaptation and evolution of a number of species by examining their skeletal anatomy.

The exhibit features 10 real animal skeletons to offer visitors a unique insight into zoology. Displays include a dynamic osprey in flight, a thornback ray and a large monitor lizard.

Each exhibit has a QR code giving access to more information, and there are activity stations for children.

The skeleton activity sessions run twice daily until Sunday, and then on weekends only until the exhibition ends. And also until Sunday, face-painting sessions are available.
