A host of Viking adventures can be enjoyed at The Beacon over next week's half-term holidays.

To coincide with its Norse Hoard treasure exhibition, which launches on February 25, the Whitehaven museum has unveiled the programme that includes a Viking Adventure discovery trail.

Every day from Monday to Friday (11am to 4pm), youngsters have the opportunity to meet a Viking, learn about runes and craft their own shield.

On Thursday, February 23 (12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm), Norse Sagas will see local storyteller Steve Wharton share three interactive stories, in which young people will be able to uncover the mystery.

And on Friday, February 24 (7pm) is a Norse Sagas Murder Mystery Evening, also led by Mr Wharton, in the museum's special Viking longhouse.

The exhibition itself is launched at 12.30pm on February 25, where the discoverers of the hoard of silver coins in Beckermet, Justin Bell and Daniel Boakes, will give a presentation, along with a band of merciless Vikings.
