Generous firefighters raised over £500 for a worthy cause with a charity car wash.

Crew members at Egremont Fire Station spent a Saturday afternoon washing cars to collect money for The Fire Fighters Charity.

The Fire Fighters Charity is the UK's leading provider of services that enhance quality of life for serving and retired firefighters, fire personnel and their families.

Egremont Fire Service crew manager David McDowell said: "The car wash went really well. We had approximately 80 cars on the day and yet again we got fantastic support.

"I'd like to thank everyone for all there support. We raised £536.60 for the Firefighters Charity."

Staff at Egremont Fire Station previously won a national competition when they managed to collect a record-breaking 7.7 tonnes of textiles during January, raising £1,700 for the charity.

It was the second year in a row the station has been victorious in the competition.

The charity presented the station with a hamper to say thank you but the firefighters handed the prize over to the North Lakes Foodbank.
