FRIZINGTON youngsters spent a day behind bars as they took to Whitehaven Police Station for an educational visit.

Children from Phoenix Youth Project in Frizington saw learned about what local police officers do and the equipment they use to fight crime.

The visit had been organised by Zoe Warren from the Phoenix Youth Project and Community Officers from the station.

The children arrived with Project staff Paul Rowe and Kane Place. They were all met by PCSOs Alan Willison and Colette Harrison who initially spoke to all the youngsters and staff explaining what the police do. The youngsters answering questions about the Police.

They were then shown the custody area, including the inside of the cells to get an idea of what it was like to be in ‘jail’.

PC Jordan Etchells attended the custody area to show the youngsters the kind of equipment that the Police officers use including Radio, Handcuffs and Body Armour.

PCSO Willison said: “Visits of this nature to the station were extremely useful, fun ways of introducing the children to the police and what they do without any concerns or fears from the children.

“It also helps the Police to show themselves in a friendly and helpful way to the youngsters and build a trusting relationship with them.”
