BACK waxing, face painting and fundraising activities will take place this weekend to raise money for an important cause.

Spencer Walters and Pete Turner, relatives of Emily Shutt, who is battling leukaemia for the third time, are planning a sponsored back wax at Egremont Conservative Club.

Emily, five, from Workington, is hoping to go to London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital in January for a medical trial.

But her relatives need to raise funds to cover family life while coping with Emily’s treatment.

Spencer, whose fiancee Dawn Shutt is cousin to Emily’s mum, said: “After following Emily’s journey on Facebook, and seeing her well and then relapse again, it was clear her family were going through an unimaginable amount of torment.

“Dawn suggested getting my back waxed and I agreed. We started getting sponsorship and we have had an unbelievable amount of people offer prizes for raffles etc.

“Dawn and I, and her family, began texting friends and came up with the idea to make it a family fun day, with the waxing being the main part of the day.

“So far we have raised £1,000, which is more than we expected.”

Starting at 2pm, the fun day will include a cake stall, a tombola, face painting and a visit from Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

There will also be entertainment provided by Daniel Shutt and Stella the Fella.

Spencer said: “It’s important to help Emily and her family relocate to London Great Ormond Street in January 2016 for a new trial, which the family just can’t fund alone.

“We had to do something because it means so much to us all to take some pressure off Emily’s mum, dad, brother and granddad, who are living a daily hell.”

He added: “We hope to make sure the family not having to worry about the financial burden while caring for Emily.

“We don’t want to say a figure we are aiming to raise because we have done so well already, but we’re hoping to smash £2,000 this time.”
