A former Whitehaven woman has held an art exhibition in a London gallery.
Artist Yvonne Saville showed 30 of her paintings, inspired by her Cumbrian roots, at the Arts Depot in North Finchley.
Entitled "Emotion recollected in tranquility'', the inspiration for her work on canvas goes back to her childhood where her late father, Lord Schon, along with Fred Marzillier, established the Marchon chemical works in Whitehaven.
Frank Schon settled in the town, raising his family, after fleeing Vienna as a refugee from the Nazi in 1939.
Yvonne, who lived in Whitehaven until she was 21, said: “Since I took up painting many years ago I’ve kept coming back to the same theme: the romantic landscapes of the Lake District.
"They have been a constant inspiration and represent a haven of tranquillity that is so important to me. I work with acrylic paints and choose a somewhat abstract style to capture the glorious colours of the fells at different seasons.''
