OVER £1,000 has been raised by a Whitehaven church minister on a sponsored walk in aid of his son.

Pastor John Campbell, of Woodbank Community Church, completed a 60-mile walk from Millom to Silloth.

He said: “The purpose of my sponsored walk was to raise funds for my son Luke.

“He has been offered a place at The Kings School of Media, in Jerusalem, to study film production for two years.

“As he has to find all the funding himself I have been trying to raise £500 to cover the many costs he has in order to get a visa from the government of Israel.

“I’m pleased to say that at the moment the sum raised is £1,060 and I have been able to pay his airfare as well.”

At least £200 was donated as a result of a recent article in The Whitehaven News about the fundraising venture, said Mr Campbell.

He added: “The role of a father never ends and it has been a joy to help Luke take the next step in his film career.”
