CHILDREN and their families are invited to an annual beach event in St Bees this weekend.

A host of activities will take place on the beach this Saturday including rockpool rambles, face painting, kite flying, whale and dolphin watches, and arts and crafts.

The event will take place between 11am and 4pm, including the sand sculpture competition between 2pm and 3.30pm.

It has been organised by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust's to celebrate the variety of wildlife found in and around the Irish Sea.

This year beach-raking artist Elizabeth Tindal will be attending to create a large work of art in the sand.

Georgie Blow, of Cumbria Wildlife Trust, said: "The competition is always a highlight of the day. You don’t need any previous experience – all are welcome to take part. Whether you want to have go at crafting a crab or designing a dolphin, the only rules are that the sculpture should be only made from sand and other natural materials found on the beach and be inspired by Irish Sea wildlife. Come and have a go!"

The event is free and you can take part in the sand sculpture competition for a donation of £3 per plot.

To book your plot call 01539 816300 or mail@cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk to reserve a place. You can register on the day from 11am.
