MEMBERS of Distington kettle bells class have received free novels as part of World Book Day.

Tanya Daniel, community services officer at Whitehaven Library, dished out 16 copies of Perfect Daughter by Amanda Prowse.

World Book Night is an annual celebration of reading and books that takes place on Shakespeare's birthday (April 23).

Hundreds of thousands of books are handed out by volunteers across the country to share their love of reading with people who don’t regularly read.

World Book Night is run by The Reading Agency, a national charity that inspires people to become confident and enthusiastic readers.

Rachel Wilkinson, librarian for Copeland, said: "If you don't get handed a free book, do remember our local libraries have a rich and varied selection to discover at all times of the year.''
