Having entered guilty pleas to four offences, 41-year-old Ian Turner was due to be sentenced on Friday at Carlisle Crown Court.
Judge Barbara Forrester was told how almost 100 extreme pornographic movies were found on Turner’s computer equipment after it was seized by police in June, 2015.
Judge Forrester heard that Turner was now preparing to start a “new life” in Russia – teaching English to businessmen.
But having been made aware of the fact that he already had a visa and job offer in place, the judge sought clarification.
She adjourned the sentencing hearing, asking for confirmation about whether the employment and visa were still available in view of Turner’s crimes. They have not yet been provided.
Barrister Greg Hoare confirmed that Turner was due to take his job up on September 1, but had not received an answer to the judge’s question. He suggested that a sentence could be passed and then reviewed if there were difficulties with the job or visa.
But Judge Forrester ruled that was not an option. She insisted that firm evidence had be produced.
Turner, of Mid Street, Whitehaven, will return to the crown court this Friday (August 26).
