Concerns about health services in West Cumbria have today been raised in Westminster.
Copeland MP Jamie Reed set out some of the pressing issues facing the local NHS - including options to move more services from the West Cumberland Hospital, major staffing shortages, funding shortfalls and the potential closure of community hospital beds.
The Labour MP also flagged up serious patient safety incidents uncovered by the local press in the past week.
Mr Reed also called on the Government to release the next phase of funding for the Whitehaven hospital's redevelopment, and questioned whether the Success Regime is achieving its original goal of drawing up a plan to transform services for the good of local people.
Health minister Ben Gummer responded to his concerns, saying the Government would help Cumbria achieve its goals.
Mr Reed is now writing to the Secretary of State.
Also present at the debate, in Westminster Hall, were fellow Labour MP Sue Hayman, who represents Workington, and Conservative MP John Stevenson, who represents Carlisle.
