A HIGH-POWERED meeting outlining the huge potential in Copeland is set to take place this week.

The Mayor of Copeland, Mike Starkie, is inviting business owners, investors, innovators and entrepreneurs to the launch of Copeland’s Growth Strategy.

This sets out opportunities arising from investment of up to £90billion set to flow into the borough over 20 years.

The strategy will be launched at Muncaster Castle Old Laundry on Friday (May 27), from 10am to 12pm.

It will focus on the business prospects being created and the benefits of relocating to Copeland including education, health and lifestyle as well as economic benefits and career opportunities.

Speakers will include Mr Starkie and Copeland MP Jamie Reed.

Mr Starkie said: "Copeland is set to benefit from the biggest investment in Europe across a range of industries, attracting up to 6,000 new workers and their families to the region. We want the world to know that Copeland is a destination for business and a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family.

"The growth strategy sets out the vision and opportunities for Copeland’s growth in the coming years. For investors, innovators, businesses and entrepreneurs, Copeland should be right at the forefront of their plans. Copeland is ready and open for business."

Mr Reed said: "Copeland’s best days are ahead of us. The opportunities coming our way over the next few years mean we could be one of the fastest growing sub-regional economies in the country.

"In the nuclear sector we have the opportunity to secure our place as world leaders and in health we are forging ahead with innovative solutions to local challenges. We stand on the verge of a truly transformative area, and this will be showcased on Friday, 27 May."

As well as covering part of the Lake District National Park, Copeland is at the core of UK’s Centre for Nuclear Excellence, being host to Sellafield Ltd - the largest nuclear site in Europe, as well the Moorside project - the largest nuclear new build development in Europe.

Copeland’s Growth Strategy will showcase what the borough has to offer, and promote the range of commercial opportunities driven by the economic growth in the area.
