An open-air military style concert could be on the cards for the Battle of the Somme memorial event in Cleator Moor.

Cleator Moor Town Council is meeting with the local Women's Institute and Army Cadets this week to make further plans for the event which is provisionally set for June 30, to mark the 100th anniversary of the bloody battle.

Cleator Moor Brass Band has confirmed that it will be playing at the event and town council clerk Helen Gilmour hopes the band will be able to play outdoors or in a marquee if the weather is good enough.

Helen also said she could put together a display of photographs, memories and stories from those who have been affected by the battle if there is enough interest.

If you have something you like to share for the display, you can drop-in to the town council building on the Market Square and talk to Helen or call 01946 810242.

Material for the proposed display needs to be submitted to Helen before the end of May.
