A "deliberate" blaze in a derelict Whitehaven building was tackled by three fire engines yesterday evening.

Crews from Whitehaven and Egremont derelict buildings opposite the town's rugby league ground, on Coach Road around 9pm.

A spokeswoman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service  said the well alight fire had been "deliberate" and measured approximately 30 metres by 20 metres.

Last month, a fire, thought by the fire service to in the same building, was tackled by firefighters from five stations across Cumbria.

Cumbria police said it was not called to the incident and that no investigation was taking place at the time of publication.
