MP visits Hexham residents before speaking at his sold-out event in town.

Wes Streeting MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social care, spent two hours speaking to Hexham residents on Sunday, May 5.

Mr Streeting was in Northumberland for his sold-out event at Hexham Book Festival on Sunday evening. He was invited to join the afternoon canvassing group by Labour’s candidate for the Hexham Constituency.

Consultant Geriatrician Liesl Alcock spent over 20 minutes talking to the MP.

She said, "It was rather a surprise to answer the door and find Wes Streeting there! It was great to talk to him about the pressures facing the NHS in our area. He was interested in listening to my experience from the front line. We talked about the challenges of meeting the needs of an ageing population as well as workforce issues."

Joe Morris, Labour's candidate for the Hexham Constituency, was also out in the streets talkig to residents. He said:"It was great to welcome Wes to Hexham and to campaign with him.

"I am working as hard as possible to ensure we have our first ever Labour MP here to fight for the rising standards in the NHS, the growing economy and the ambition to tackle climate change that we desperately need. It was good to have so many people sharing their thoughts with Wes from the angle of NHS patients, and of staff too. Having face-to-face conversations with people like Dr Liesl Alcock is invaluable.”

Wes Streeting adds: "It was great to get out on the doorstep again after a fantastic set of local election results for the Labour Party and campaign for Joe to be the first ever Labour MP for Hexham.

"The polls show that every vote will matter in Hexham. I want people here to know that Labour has changed, and we are ready to change Britain.

"I’m asking people in Hexham to give change a chance, and vote Labour to rescue and renew our NHS and get Britain’s future back."
