RSPCA Furness have reminded the public about the correct way to report animal abuse following notes posted through their door.

The branch, located on Church Street in Barrow, has urged anyone who wishes to report animal cruelty or concerns to call 0300 1234999.

The reminder comes after a member of the public posted anonymous notes through the branch's door.

A Facebook post created on the RSPCA Furness and Barrow branch Facebook page said: "Please don’t post anonymous notes through our door with little information on, we can’t attend properties as we aren’t inspectors.

"The more information reported to the helpline, the more likely an Inspector will attend."

Information on the RSPCA's website states that 'investigating cruelty and neglect is a job no other charity does' and to read its advice first before reporting.

Specially trained staff can then get to those animals most in need.

A red button can be found on the website to report animals you believe to be at risk of cruelty or neglect, or those trapped or injured who can’t be helped without specialist skills.
