A bar is continuing to put on quirky promotions with its recent endeavour involving irons.

The Strand, in Whitehaven, first offered people a free pornstar martini cocktail if they brought in a passionfruit – one of its ingredients.

It proved to be very popular and brought with it significant social media attention.

The next step was to offer a £60 voucher for the bar if they did one specific, peculiar thing.

Inspired by Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, The Strand announced on social media that it will offer the voucher to the first person who rang their last order bell with a clothes iron.

They put the post out at 8.45pm and within five minutes, a woman named Susan Coan arrived, iron in hand, and rang the bell in the middle of a packed bar while their quiz was underway.

A second patron arrived with an iron three minutes later, sadly too late, and was offered a consolation prize of a free bottle of prosecco.

Manager Craig Bell said 10 people arrived with irons in total.

On why they do these things, he said: “It’s just thinking outside the box, doing what nobody else is doing.

“We’ve got a brilliant social media following and we can’t complain, everything is going well,” he said, compared to other pubs and bars which are closing.

“It’s about not being lazy and just working all the time.”

Another bell-ringing promo will happen on April 29, they said, but will be harder.
