A school is celebrating having been graded ‘good’ after a recent Ofsted inspection.

Gosforth C of E Primary School was inspected in March, with the report praising the school’s ‘broad and ambitious’ curriculum, it’s ‘strong and courageous’ pupils, and staff who ‘set high expectations for what pupils can achieve, including those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)’.

The inspection report said: “Pupils like their school.

“They feel safe and happy here.

“Pupils enjoy their lessons and get on well with each other and with staff.

“Children in the early years settle in quickly because they feel secure with the adults who care for them.”

It states pupils have a love of reading and ‘remember books’ they’ve read and can discuss favourite authors.

“Pupils learn to contribute to the life of their community through various projects and fund-raising activities.

“Pupils learn about the importance of healthy relationships and how to keep themselves safe when they work online.

“These experiences help to prepare pupils for life beyond school,” it said.

Good is not the highest grade – which is ‘outstanding’ – and as such the report states on where the school can improve: “The school’s work to understand the impact of the curriculum in a small number of subjects is at an early stage.

“This makes it difficult for the school to make further improvements to the curriculum in these subjects, should they be necessary.

“The school should ensure that in these subjects, there is a clear understanding of the impact of the curriculum over time from the early years to Year 6.”

Leanne Long, headteacher, said: “The whole school community are delighted with the outcome of the inspection.

“The inspection report reflects the good quality of education that pupils receive at our wonderful school.

“I am also delighted that the report reflects the warm welcome that all pupils receive at our school and the nurturing environment which enables our pupils to develop a love of learning and the confidence to explore new challenges.

“I am especially pleased that the report acknowledges all the hard work and dedication that all members of our whole school community give to ensuring our pupils receive a good quality of education and range of experiences beyond the academic curriculum.”
