New food hygiene ratings have been handed out to 19 businesses in the Cumberland Council area.

Most businesses got the highest score - five out of five - but three businesses were handed ratings of four, three, and one respectively.

The following businesses got a score of five out of five, indicating 'very good' food hygiene.

Alloutfood at 28 Main Street in Egremont, a takeaway, was rated four out of five, indicating 'good' food hygiene.

The Food Standards Agency website said it was visited on March 13, its main reason for not scoring five out of five being its hygienic food handling, but the report does conclude that it was 'generally satisfactory'.

The Great Wall, a takeaway at 244 Moss Bay Road in Workington, was handed a score of three out of five, but recently the Food Standards Agency showed a rating of one out of five; it appears that the business has been re-rated very recently.

Caspian Fine Food at 1 Wheatsheaf Lane in Wigton was rated one out of five after a visit on March 13.

The Food Standards Agency reports that the management of food safety is its main fault - requiring major improvement, while the cleanliness of the building and hygienic food handling was deemed to require improvement.
